Miles Manning is the starting cornerback for his high-school varsity football team. Their team is supposed to be very good this year. He loves football but isn’t that strong. But, his best friend Zach is. When Zach offers him some “pills that will make him stronger”, he doesn’t know what to do. Should he take them?
In this book, you will read about a high-school kid’s life. Miles Manning goes through a lot of pressure and faces a lot of difficult decisions.. In this book I kept wondering what will happen next. I couldn’t stop reading it. This is a quick read. I recommend this to anyone who likes sport fiction. The author does a good job at making you feel like you are in the book.
Will Corey and his family ever get out of slavery? Freedom’ s Wing’s is an inspiring book about a family and their struggle to get out of slavery and to get to the Underground Railroad. But when Corey’s dad is taken from him and his mom, there is no hope for them to escape.
Now that his dad is gone, Corey and his mom devise a plan and escape, but will they be free forever? After they escape, Corey looks for his dad, but there is no luck for Corey and his dad reuniting. Corey is devastated. Now focused on escaping, Corey and his mom start heading for the Underground Railroad, where they think Corey’s dad is. Will they get there without getting caught? I loved this book because it shows true strength of someone trying to reach a goal. I recommend this book to anyone who liked “A Child Called It” because it shows someone attempting to get away from abuse. The book deals with themes of injustice and brutality. The author’s style is a fast-paced diary. It is truly a heart-wrenching journey of a boy and his mom trying to find his lost father. Will their family be ruined with the loss of a loving father?

How would you feel if you got a million bucks just for kicking a soccer ball into a net? Thirteen-year-old Whisper Nelson, who hates sports, and has only played soccer once in her life, and knows what it feels like. Her sister, Brianna, entered her in a soccer contest to take a shot against world famous goalie, Carmen Applegate. Whisper doesn’t care because she thinks that it’s a million to one chance she’d be picked, until the phone rings. It’s the people that were holding the shot against Carmen Applegate to tell her that she won the contest. She runs to tell the soccer coach at school so she could get help. The coach said he wouldn’t do it. So she asks girls on the team to help her but none of them say yes. Then that day a girl said, “ She would”. After a lot of work she got better. The day of the big kick she heard that Carmen Applegate was injured. Who is her backup? I recommend this book to kids who like soccer and sports. I rate this book an eight because it’s really good but short. It has good dialouge in it.

Heat by Mike Lupica is a compelling and exciting story of a young man named Michael Arroyo. In this story Michael falls in love with a girl named Eli. Little did he know that Eli is the daughter of his favorite professional baseball player, El Grande. While his personal life gets a little interesting. He is having problems on his little league baseball team. He is being accused of not being his on age, and the problem is he can find his birth certificate so he can’t play baseball. Him and Eli are having problems with their relationship.
